Magnification Answers

   1. What is the equation for magnification?

Image = Actual size x Magnification

   2. The size of an image through an electron microscope is 25mm and the magnification is x100,000. Calculate the actual size of the object

  0.00025mm

   3. Rearrange the magnification to make Actual size (A) the subject

Actual size = Image / Magnification

   4. Which microscope has a higher magnification

  A - Electron microscope

   5. What is the total magnification of a light microscope with an eyepiece lens of x10 and an objective lens of x30?

  300x

   6. What is the total magnification of a light microscope with an eyepiece lens of x2 and an objective lens of x15?

  30x

   7. A drawing of a cell is 2 cm and the scale states that it is 0.2 mm in real life, what is its magnification?

Magnification  = image size / actual size

  Magnification = 2 / 0.2 = 10x

   8. Roughly, what is the maximum magnification that a light microscope can achieve?

  ~1500x

   9. Roughly, what is the maximum magnification that an electron microscope can achieve?

  ~1,000,000x

   10. An image seen through a light microscope is 25mm and the magnification is x200. Calculate the actual size of the object

  0.125mm
